Rockhounding
This old feldspar mine near Custer South Dakota has a nice variety of pegmatite minerals that are fairly easy to collect. Site A has produced a large amount of nice Black Tourmaline crystals, including many in a Rose Quartz matrix. Site B has once a large vein of Rose Quartz. A large portion of the quartz has previously been extracted however deep pink quartz can still be seen in the undercut. Pale colored beryl crystals have also been found in this area. An abundance of rose quartz can still be found on the surface in this area. Site C contains several large boulders often containing Black Tourmaline. Many nice specimens have been collected and many more remain.
